About Vaultline
Vaultline was founded in Tallinn in 2018 by two people who had spent years watching confidential documents travel by email attachment, courier and USB stick — and who thought professional services firms deserved something built for the way they actually work.
To make confidential document exchange controlled, evidenced and unremarkable.
Professional services firms handle other people's most sensitive material — evidence, financial records, medical administration, deal documents — and for the most part they still move it with a tool designed in the 1980s for informal messages. Email has no concept of revoking access, no reliable record of who opened what, and a size limit that forces people onto whatever workaround they can find.
The workaround is usually the problem. A courier, a personal cloud account, a password shared over the phone: each is a place where a firm's control over its clients' documents quietly ends.
We think the answer is not to make email more secure, but to stop using it as a transport for documents that matter. Put the document in a place you govern, give people a right to see it rather than a copy of it, and keep a record. That is the whole idea, and everything in the product follows from it.
What we believe
We hold other people's privileged material. Every decision — architectural, commercial, hiring — is checked against whether it makes that material safer or less safe.
We would rather show you a log, a certificate or a report than tell you we take security seriously. If we cannot evidence a claim, we do not make it.
We built in the EU, we host in the EU, and we use EU sub-processors. Not as a marketing position, but because it makes the compliance story simple for the firms we serve.
Document exchange should be uneventful. We put our creativity into the parts customers never see, and keep the parts they do see predictable.
Leadership
Co-founder & Chief Executive Officer
Katrin spent nine years running document and records operations for a Baltic commercial law practice, where they were responsible for the disclosure process across three offices. The experience of assembling court bundles from a shared mailbox is, by their own account, the reason Vaultline exists. They hold a law degree from the University of Tartu and lead the company's work with regulated customers.
Co-founder & Chief Technology Officer
Jonas builds the platform's storage and cryptography layers, and has an unfashionable enthusiasm for making deletion actually work. Before Vaultline they spent seven years on distributed storage systems at an Amsterdam infrastructure company, and contributed to several open-source encryption libraries. MSc in computer science, TU Delft.
Chief Information Security Officer
Aino joined in 2021 to build the security programme that took Vaultline through ISO 27001 and its first SOC 2 Type II. They came from a decade in financial services security, most recently leading assurance for a Nordic banking group, and they are the reason this website has a security page with specifics rather than adjectives.
VP Customer Success
Marek leads onboarding, support and the customer success team across the EU. They have spent their career in professional services technology — first as a practice manager at a Prague accountancy firm, then implementing document systems for mid-market firms in six countries. They speak Czech, Polish, German and English, usually in that order before coffee.
